Outdoors / Northstar

December 12, 2015 by Jonathan Chow in Outdoors

First time at Northstar and with exception to Mammoth, I think it's become my new favorite shred spot. Today started out bluebird perfect and then later the snow came out, which to me only added to the experience! All in all a very fun day.

Outdoors / Camping at Mt Madonna

August 04, 2015 by Jonathan Chow in Outdoors

This weekend, some friends and I went camping for one night at Mt Madonna Park in Santa Cruz mountains. The site was really accessible and great for beginner campers which was important because not everyone was ready to get their wild side on. The site was also dog friendly, so we brought Parker and another dog, Ty who despite some head-butting and a sore tummy was still able to have fun hiking with us. A firepit, great weather, good food and good friends made for a pretty positive trip. Given how easy everything was, we'll hopefully have another trip with even more people set up sometime soon.

MONTANA / Day 5

June 26, 2015 by Jonathan Chow in Outdoors, Trips

Today we went back to Idaho and stayed at Sandpoint, a small town along the lakeside. The town itself was, while quaint and peasant, not really much to write home about. On the way there, on the other hand, we randomly stopped at Kootenai Falls and that was pretty fun. The rocks themselves were interesting enough, with prehistoric seabed preserved so you can still see the ripples from the seabed sand. We also checked out the nearby "Swinging Bridge" and fortunately, the bridge definitely lived up to its name! Three planks wide and suspended by a few steel cables, it wasn't exactly the most confidence-building bridge I've ever been on. The occasional loose & flexible planks were especially entertaining! Tomorrow is the last day as I head home, there won't likely be much to blog about for that day.

MONTANA / Day 4

June 26, 2015 by Jonathan Chow in Trips, Outdoors

Today we went to go up to Logan's Pass, riding a tour bus up the Road to the Sun. This is the only time during our trip where we really got to go deep into the park and see some actual glaciers. Unfortunately, due to global weather changes, the handful of glaciers that are left are far away on out-of-reach peaks and will likely disappear altogether in the next 5 years. On the bright side, even once the glaciers are gone, the park itself is still an amazingly beautiful landscape of wildly dramatic mountain ranges, waterfalls, lakes and streams, all under Montana's huge blue sky. Tomorrow we'll head out back to Idaho, going up north to Sandpoint, a "beach" resort.
